Sarah Hoibak | Photojournalist

 

A professional documentary photographer since 2005, Sarah Hoibak is also a public health specialist who works for international humanitarian and health organizations. Her public health work involves infectious disease prevention and response for some the most vulnerable people, families and communities in volatile regions of the world.

Through her work, Hoibak has had the privilege to document the situations of internally displaced people (IDPs) and refugees from Darfur in Chad; the humanitarian response to cyclone Nargis in Myanmar;the struggle of Syrian refugees in Lebanon; Syrian refugees and Iraqi IDPs in Iraq; the diaspora of Somali refugees in Kenya, Uganda and Yemen;

the struggle to control HIV, TB and malaria in Africa; and the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.

Hoibak’s photography finds its inspiration in the strength and resilience of those whose lives she encounters and documents. Her work has been featured in press and publications for the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Alliance for Malaria Prevention, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), USAID, The Global Fund, HumanitarianU, NRS International, and others.
